Ramadan Reflections 1439

juwie-ki-baatein

Ramadan Mubarak! 🌙✨
Alhumdulillah, Praise be to God, for granting us this immense blessing of being able to witness yet another Ramadan. I pray that we utilize this month to the best of our abilities. May we not let any of this precious time go to waste.

I felt a little disheartened because I could not start my Ramadan as strongly as I would have hoped. It’s finals week right now and I have been very stressed and burnt out already. I was disappointed because I don’t have the energy to go above and beyond in my worship, let alone have enough energy to put the needed effort into studying.

As writing is my way of processing, I hope to be able to strengthen my iman (faith) by writing some Ramadan Reflections and Insha’Allah by sharing them, they will be of some benefit to you, as well.

juwie-ki-baatein

As I originally felt a bit disheartened and frustrated about not having the energy or ability to dedicate more time to spend in Ibadah (worship) to start my Ramadan strong, I remembered a Hadith that made me alter my thought process:
Narrated by Aisha (RA): The Prophet SAW was asked, “What deeds are loved most by Allah?” He said, “The most regular constant deeds even though they may be few.” He added, “Don’t take upon yourselves, except the deeds which are within your ability” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 6465).

Allah SWT is so merciful, Alhumdulillah, and He is not asking for us to go beyond our limits to please Him during this blessed month of Ramadan.
We can still earn so much ajr (reward) simply by trying to maintain consistency in what we may consider our smaller good deeds. They will all add up in our benefit, Insha’Allah.

Don’t let yourself fall into the trap that if you can’t do the maximum, that you fail to do the minimum; don’t lose sight of starting from the basics to work your way up, Insha’Allah.

May Allah S.W.T accept all of our efforts, Insha’Allah 🙏🏾

Ramadan Reflections, Day 1

Dedicated to everyone stressing out with school, exams, finals, etc.

Intentions are so incredibly important in Islam.
Narrated ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The reward of deeds depends upon the intention and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended” (Sahih al-Bukhari 54).

Renew your intentions when you’re spending so much of your time dedicated to your studies. Remember Allah SWT as you pursue your goals.
When you’re studying, and trying to learn more, make your intentions to seek knowledge to earn the pleasure of Allah SWT. Seek His guidance, and pray that the efforts you are putting towards succeeding in your academics will, Insha'Allah, help you remove the ignorance that exists in yourself and in others. Make your goals for doing well in your studies in this world act as a path to guide you towards Jannat-ul-Firdaus (Highest level of Heaven) in the Hereafter.

With countless hours spent in classes, studying, reviewing, doing projects, writing essays, taking exams, and all of the other things that our educational endeavors encompass, it is truly a beautiful thing to remember that all of these acts we do can, Insha'Allah, double as acts of ibadah (worship) for us. Let us remember to renew our intentions and keep Allah SWT as the focal point of our hearts and minds, Insha'Allah.

May Allah SWT grant us guidance and goodness, and may He accept all of our efforts, Insha'Allah.

Ramadan Reflections, Day 2 | Night 3

We may not always have the physical ability to perform all of the acts of worship we want to.
I was looking forward to going to Taraweeh tonight, but after Iftar, my stomach and back were in a lot of pain. I had to make the decision to not overexert myself and stay home rather than pray in congregation at the musallah.
Our bodies are an amanah—a trust—given to us by Allah SWT, so we must take care of them. I made that decision in conscious effort to try to take care of myself, knowing that doing that is still following what Allah SWT asks of us.

Ramadan Reflection, Day 3 | Night 4

Don’t beat yourself up for your shortcomings.
Allah SWT knows what is in our hearts and knows what we truly desire. He knows our dreams, and our wishes; He knows our fears and setbacks. He knows what we are thinking and feeling before we even have the words to express them ourselves.

When you’ve struggled for so long, and tried to improve yourself and your conditions, but you feel as if things are not getting better or getting easier, do not give up on yourself. Do not give up on the power of prayer. Even when we don’t have the energy to stand in salah, we can raise our hands and speak directly to Allah SWT. He is always listening.
And, Subhan’Allah, He truly listens.

Yesterday, I was unable to have the energy to pray Taraweeh at the musallah, and I was very upset about that, but Subhan’Allah, tonight I was able to join in the congregational prayers. I can’t help but feel incredibly grateful knowing Allah SWT heard my pain, and blessed me with the strength to be able to go today.
Basically, I just want to remind myself, first and foremost, and all of you: don’t give up, keep praying to Him, and be confident in knowing He is listening and will answer with what is best for you, Insha'Allah.

Salman Al-Farsi narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Indeed, Allah, is Hayy, Generous, when a man raises his hands to Him, He feels too shy to return them to him empty and rejected” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3556).

Dua ideas

juwie-ki-baatein

Sometimes when I feel very tired, I feel I shouldn’t read Quran because I’m more susceptible to making a careless mistake while reading, so I’ve taken to trying to make a lot more dhikr and dua. There are some awesome articles I’ve read that help remind us of things we should or can make dua for.
I’ve read a lot of different articles with ideas in them so I apologize I can’t site them all, but one of the recent ones I found to be incredibly helpful is one I’ve already shared (http://juwie-ki-baatein.tumblr.com/post/146647794925/dua-list-guidelines-tips-dua-suggestions) Feel free to take a look at that one.
Some other dua and prayer ideas I’ve come across, plus some of my own that I feel are very good reminders to have are to:

  • Send salawaat upon the Prophet Muhammad PBUH
  • Send blessings to his Companions and Wives, May Allah be pleased with all of them

To ask Allah to/for:

  • Help us forgive others whether they have apologized to us or not
  • Help us forgive ourselves for things we may have done in the past but have yet to move past
  • Guide us and keep us all on the Straight Path
  • Protection from the Hellfire, from Shaitan, and from the faults in ourselves
  • Beg for forgiveness for the sins and shortcomings of our parents, grandparents, ancestors and all the Muslimeen
  • Give us the strength to not commit the same mistakes again
  • A pious spouse, pious children, and the strength to become more pious ourselves
  • Better conditions around the world
  • Grant Jannat-ul-Firdaus to our deceased loved ones and to the victims of attacks worldwide
  • Peace worldwide
  • Help us do well and exceed in our education and careers
  • Grant us good health and wealth and the ability to work in His Cause
  • Guide our non-Muslim brothers and sisters to the Straight Path
  • Help us earn halal money and spend in His Cause
  • Financial stability
  • Good health–physically, mentally, emotionally
  • Energy to continue each day for His Sake
  • Help us better understand the Quran and help us implement it into our daily lives
  • His Mercy on all matters in our lives
  • End the suffering of our brothers and sisters
  • Keep us under His Shade on the Day of Judgement
  • Help us follow the Sunnah

In all of our asking, begging and pleading, we must not forget to thank and praise Him.
Possible things to thank Him for:

  • Shelter
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Pets
  • Clothing
  • Ease and hardships in your life
  • Not giving us what we thought was best for us because only He truly knows what is best for us
  • Food and water
  • Our hearts beating and lungs breathing only by His Command
  • The ability to read, speak, eat, see, blink, touch, feel, hear, move, understand, laugh, smile, etc.
  • Endless bounties He has bestowed upon us without us realizing
  • Job
  • Education and schooling
  • The Holy Quran
  • For making us part of this Ummah–for being born into a practicing Muslim family, for finding Islam again, for reverting to Islam, etc.
  • His Mercy
  • His Infinite Power and Wisdom
  • Giving us the power to make decisions in our life
  • Not giving up on us
  • Giving us more than we could ever deserve
  • His Love
  • Allowing us to witness another Ramadan

** There are more things to add, of course, but these are just a few things I have been trying to remind myself of, so I thought it may be helpful to some of you, as well!

May Allah SWT accept all of our duas, and may He grant us with what He knows to be best for us in this life and the Hereafter, Insha’Allah.

Reminders during this blessed 27th of night of Ramadan

juwie-ki-baatein
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni, Ya Ghafur.
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me, The All-Forgiving.

‘Aishah (RA (May Allah be pleased with her)) reported:
I asked, “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?”
He (ﷺ) replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa'fu ‘anni" [Jami’ At-Tirmidhi].

May Allah forgive us, free us from the Hell fire, accept from us and keep us on the Straight Path, Insha'Allah.
Please share this, especially now that we are in the last ten nights of this blessed month of Ramadan. May this be of benefit and reward to all of us. Ameen.

Ya Allah, I am weak and only You can give me strength.
I ask that You give me the strength to do good and be good. Give me the strength I need to please my parents and in doing so, please You.
I am weak and I feel broken. Please give me the strength to be a better me, the strength I need to work to become the best me I can be. I beg for Your Mercy for all the times I was weak and went against what You decreed.
Please grant me Mercy for mistreating anyone, especially my parents. Forgive me for the things I have done wrong, knowingly or unknowingly.
I beg You to please give me the strength I need to increase my iman (faith) and the strength I need to continue along the Straight Path. Ya Allah, I am weak and I know I can fall away at any moment, so I beg You to please keep me under Your Guidance.
Never let me stray. Keep my heart firm in Your Remembrance and Praise.
Ya Allah, I am guilty of losing myself in the past, please give me the strength to find myself following the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and his companions and wives.
Let me be amongst those You love.
Forgive me and guide me and keep me under Your bounty. And I beg you to please let Your blessings shower me, and all of the Muslims.
Ameen.
A personal prayer meant for all of us

Subhan'Allah, where did the time go?
Allah SWT blessed us by allowing us to witness this beautiful month, and now it is coming to a close. People talk about Ramadan as our guest, and the older I get, the more I understand. We treat our guests with honor, respect and hospitality. But how many of us truly gave Ramadan the respect it deserves? How many of us truly used our time to the best of our God-given ability?
Ya Allah, Allahumma innaka ‘Afuwwun TuHibbul ‘Afwa Fa'fu ‘Annii. O Allah, you are the Forgiver, You love to forgive, so forgive me.
Please grant us the strength to take what we have reaffirmed within ourselves during the Holiest of months, and let us carry it forth into our daily lives. Do not let us lose the connection we have been striving towards. Without You, Ya Hadiy–the Guide, the Way–we are inevitably lost. Please do not leave us astray.
I do not wish to say goodbye to this highly-esteemed guest of ours, but guests are but visitors in our lives. We take what we learn from them and remember them by acting upon what they have taught us. Ya Hafiz, You are The Protector, so please protect us from any harm and evil from others, and especially from within ourselves. Please do not let us forget what we have been working towards. Let us not forget our purpose in this world: to worship You, and only You. Grant us Guidance and forgiveness and grant us the mercy of being under Your Shade on the Day of Judgment, Insha'Allah.
May today act as a reminder of how fast time passes, and let us not waste any breath that we have been granted. Ameen.

Ya Allah,
I feel so far from you.
I wish to be close to you.

Let my feet follow the footsteps of the beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW.
Let my legs never tire from walking closer to this beautiful deen You blessed us with.
Help my hands work to fulfill my duties to You.
Engage my eyes in sights that are only pleasing to You. Erase the memories of things I have seen that do not please You.
Train my tongue to speak only goodness. Stop any gossip that may reach the tip of my tongue.
End my ears from listening to anything that which You dislike. Save me from hearing vulgarities and falsehoods.

Ya Qawiyy, You are The Possessor of All Strength, so please grant me the strength needed to turn away from all that You dislike. Do not let me fall astray, Ya Allah.
Ya Ghafur, You are The Forgiver and Hider of Faults, so please forgive me and hide my faults. Ya Ghaffar, You are The Forgiving. You love to forgive, so please forgive me. I have sinned so many times, yet You continue to bestow Your Blessings upon me. Please forgive me. If you don’t forgive me, who will? Ya Allah, I am in need of Your Forgiveness.
Please do not leave me astray.

Ya Mujib, The Responder to Prayer, I beg you to respond to my prayers. Ya Wadud, You are The Loving One, and I need Your Love.
Ya Allah, Ya Hadi, You are The Guide. Please guide me and never let me lose Your Guidance.
Ya Sabur, You are The Patient One. Thank You for being patient with me while I take my steps to be closer to You.Ya Rahim, The Most Merciful, please have mercy on me. Have mercy on my parents and my family. Have mercy on our Ummah.
Ya Allah, please have mercy on our souls and grant us the blessing to be amongst the ones closest to You, the ones who are granted Jannat-ul-Firdaus, the Highest Level of Heaven, Insha'Allah.

Ameen, ya Rabb, Allahumma Ameen. O Lord, please accept.

Please keep the following in your duas this Ramadan

faramosh

  • The Prophet (saw)
  • His (saw) family and the sahabah
  • Our Ummah (living and dead)
  • Every Muslim who has passed away before this blessed month
  • The family of those who have lost someone
  • Your parents
  • Your siblings
  • Your relatives
  • Your friends
  • Yourself
  • The families and loved ones of your friends
  • Non-Muslims
  • Reverts
  • Orphans
  • People who are in need of a job
  • People who are in need of a home
  • People who are diagnosed with incurable diseases
  • The elderly
  • Every single Muslim in every corner of the world
  • People who are struggling with their sexuality
  • People who are struggling to come back to Islam
  • People who have no idea what Islam is
  • Those who have sinned greatly
  • Those who have sinned lightly
  • Those whose hearts are black
  • The oppressed
  • The helpless
  • Women who have been sexually abused
  • Men who have been sexually abused
  • The (mentally/physically) disabled
  • The families of the (mentally/physically) disabled
  • Those who are struggling with self-harm
  • Those whose families have abandoned them
  • Those who abandoned their families
  • People in need of healthcare
  • Pregnant women
  • Single mothers
  • Single fathers
  • Students
  • Parents of students
  • Missing children and adults
  • People who have no one to share this month with

These are some of the people that are often overlooked, and what better month to remember them than Ramadan. This post is in absolutely no order, and is definitely not limited to just this list! Feel free to add on.

Make as much duaa as you can, for as many people as you can. Remember the Prophet (saw) said: “The Dua of a person for his Muslim brother in his absence will be answered. At his head there is an angel, and every time he prays for him for something good, the angel who has been appointed to be with him, says, ‘Ameen, may you have likewise.“

Even if you yourself are not in these situations, imagine having the angels already have your back if you were ever to be afflicted.

May Allah help us all make the most of this month inshAllah! Ramadan Mubarak to my brothers and sisters accross the world, may Allah accept our duaas and make us successful in both dunyas!
